About the painting
Master of Ceremonies suggests the figure who runs the evening: the compère, the host, the man who decides when the music starts and who is introduced to whom. Vettriano was fascinated by social ritual, whether at the dance hall, the bar or the formal dinner, and the people who orchestrate these occasions play a natural part in his world. The title carries his usual note of theatre, as though the scene were one act in a longer performance.
The painting belongs to the strand of his work that celebrates evening wear, ceremony and an old-fashioned sense of occasion. It is a good choice for a dining room or entertaining space, and it sits well with other dance hall and nightlife images from his catalogue.

Framing, display and care
As a fine art giclée, this print is made with archival pigment inks on acid-free fine art paper, which is what allows a limited edition like this to keep its colour for decades. To protect that, frame it with an acid-free mount and UV-filtering glass, and hang it out of direct sunlight. Steady conditions matter more than anything else: a dry interior wall is ideal, while bathrooms, kitchens and the space above a radiator are best avoided. If you are not framing straight away, store the print flat, in its protective packaging, somewhere cool and dry, and only handle it by the edges. A good framer will be able to advise on moulding and mount colour to suit the image and the room.
