About the painting
Narcissistic Bathers is one of the most significant Vettriano releases of recent years, and not only because of the image. It belongs to a small group of previously unreleased editions that Jack Vettriano hand-signed before his death in March 2025, which makes it one of the last editions anywhere to carry his original pencil signature. Released by Jack Vettriano Publishing in September 2026, it was always going to attract strong interest from collectors.
The title is pure Vettriano: a little knowing, a little provocative, and suggestive of figures more absorbed in themselves and how they look than in anything around them. Bathers by the sea are an old subject in painting, and Vettriano brings his own theatrical, cinematic sense of style to it, turning a simple seaside scene into something charged with self-regard and quiet drama.

About this edition
The edition is limited to 125 prints and 15 Artist's Proofs, each signed by Jack Vettriano and numbered, with a certificate of authenticity. It is printed on 300gsm museum etching paper, with an image size of 38 x 31 cm and a mount size of 61 x 52 cm. Framed examples are glazed with true colour acrylic. Please note that, because of EU GPSR regulations, this item cannot be shipped to EU countries or Northern Ireland.

Framing, display and care
This edition is printed on heavyweight museum etching paper, a soft, textured cotton stock chosen because it holds pigment ink with depth and stays stable for generations when it is looked after. If you are framing it yourself, ask your framer for an acid-free mount and backing board and for UV-filtering glazing; conservation or museum glass is worth the extra cost on a signed print. Hang it away from direct sunlight, and avoid bathrooms, kitchens and the wall above a radiator, where heat and damp can cockle the paper over time. When the print arrives, handle it by the edges with clean, dry hands and keep it flat in its packaging until it goes to the framer.

About Jack Vettriano
Jack Vettriano was born in St Andrews in 1951 and grew up in Methil, Fife. He left school at sixteen and taught himself to paint, studying the works in Kirkcaldy's gallery after being given a set of watercolours for his twenty-first birthday. When he sent two paintings to the Royal Scottish Academy's annual exhibition in 1988, both sold on the first day, and his career as a professional painter began.
Vettriano's paintings are known for their cinematic atmosphere: men and women in evening dress, beaches under heavy skies, quiet rooms where something has just happened or is about to. He was appointed OBE in 2003, and a major retrospective of his work was held at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum in Glasgow in 2013 and 2014.
