About the painting
Night Calls belongs to the after-dark side of Vettriano's work, where the telephone, the late hour and the closed door set the scene for something private. The title alone suggests a call that should not be made, or an arrangement made under cover of night. These interiors are where Vettriano's noir influences show most clearly: low light, a strong sense of mood, and a story told through glances and gestures rather than spelled out.
It is a picture for collectors who prefer the darker, more cinematic strand of his work to the sunlit beaches, and it holds its own on a wall with real atmosphere.
About this Artist's Proof
This example is not from the main edition: it is an Artist's Proof, numbered 1 of 10. Artist's Proofs are a small group of prints traditionally set aside from an edition for the artist, and they are among the most sought-after prints a collector can own. The main edition was limited to 100 prints, so there are only ten proofs in existence. It is printed on 300gsm museum etching paper, signed and numbered by Jack Vettriano, with an image size of 39 x 31.5 cm, a mount size of 62 x 53.5 cm and a frame size of 73 x 64.5 cm, and it comes with a certificate of authenticity.

Framing, display and care
This edition is printed on heavyweight museum etching paper, a soft, textured cotton stock chosen because it holds pigment ink with depth and stays stable for generations when it is looked after. If you are framing it yourself, ask your framer for an acid-free mount and backing board and for UV-filtering glazing; conservation or museum glass is worth the extra cost on a signed print. Hang it away from direct sunlight, and avoid bathrooms, kitchens and the wall above a radiator, where heat and damp can cockle the paper over time. When the print arrives, handle it by the edges with clean, dry hands and keep it flat in its packaging until it goes to the framer.
