About the painting
Mad Dogs, painted in 1991, is one of the paintings that defined Jack Vettriano's early reputation. Fashionably dressed figures with umbrellas stand on a beach in strong light, a scene that takes its title from Noël Coward's quip about mad dogs and Englishmen going out in the midday sun. The painting is witty, stylish and beautifully composed, and it was later included in the major retrospective of his work at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum in Glasgow.
It remains one of the most requested images in our collection, and it suits a living room, hallway or any bright wall.

Framing, display and care
The edition is printed on Hahnemühle mould-made paper, one of the most respected fine art papers in the world. Hahnemühle has been making paper in Germany since the sixteenth century, and its mould-made stock is acid-free and made for archival printing, with a gentle surface texture that gives Vettriano's colours a soft, painterly finish. To keep it at its best, frame it with an acid-free mount and UV-filtering glass, hang it on a dry wall away from direct sun, and avoid rooms with fluctuating heat or humidity. Handle the sheet only by its edges, and if you need to store it before framing, keep it flat and interleaved with acid-free tissue.
