About the painting
The Missing Man II revisits one of Vettriano's best-known titles. The original The Missing Man, published as a silkscreen in 1998, is one of his classic beach scenes, and this second painting returns to the idea of absence at its centre: someone who should be there and is not, and the people left behind waiting or wondering. The title turns an ordinary gathering into a mystery, a device Vettriano used to great effect.
Released in 2020 as a premium edition at full original size, it has the scale to anchor a room and the storytelling to hold attention over time.

Framing, display and care
Premium editions like this are presented in a different way from a standard paper print. The image is printed at the same size as the original painting, board mounted and finished by hand with three coats of lacquer, which gives a satin surface closer to that of a canvas than a sheet of paper. It arrives in the same style of frame used for original work, with no white border and no glass over the image, so it is ready to hang as soon as it is unpacked. Because there is no glazing, choose its position with care: away from direct sunlight, kitchens, open fires and smoke. A light dusting with a soft, dry brush or cloth is all the surface needs; never use water, sprays or cleaning products on it.

Authenticity matters more than anything when you buy a limited edition, which is why every print we supply comes with a certificate of authenticity and is sent with fully insured UK delivery. International delivery is available on enquiry. As an official stockist we can tell you exactly what you are buying, and we are glad to talk through edition details, framing or delivery before you commit.
About Jack Vettriano
Jack Vettriano was born in St Andrews in 1951 and grew up in Methil, Fife. He left school at sixteen and taught himself to paint, studying the works in Kirkcaldy's gallery after being given a set of watercolours for his twenty-first birthday. When he sent two paintings to the Royal Scottish Academy's annual exhibition in 1988, both sold on the first day, and his career as a professional painter began.
Vettriano's paintings are known for their cinematic atmosphere: men and women in evening dress, beaches under heavy skies, quiet rooms where something has just happened or is about to. He was appointed OBE in 2003, and a major retrospective of his work was held at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum in Glasgow in 2013 and 2014.
