About the painting

Wicked Games was published in November 2020 and is one of the later signed editions released in Vettriano's lifetime. The title, borrowed from the language of pop songs and film, sets up exactly the kind of story he liked to tell: a game of attraction and power between two people, played by rules only they understand. His later work kept the cinematic glamour of his earlier paintings while often becoming more intimate and pared back.

It is a stylish, compact image that suits a bedroom, dressing room or study, and as a later edition it adds range to a collection weighted towards his better-known 1990s images.

Our complete buying guide covers what to look for, our certificate of authenticity guide explains what should come with every signed print, and our investment guide looks at what actually drives value.

Framing, display and care

This edition is printed on heavyweight museum etching paper, a soft, textured cotton stock chosen because it holds pigment ink with depth and stays stable for generations when it is looked after. If you are framing it yourself, ask your framer for an acid-free mount and backing board and for UV-filtering glazing; conservation or museum glass is worth the extra cost on a signed print. Hang it away from direct sunlight, and avoid bathrooms, kitchens and the wall above a radiator, where heat and damp can cockle the paper over time. When the print arrives, handle it by the edges with clean, dry hands and keep it flat in its packaging until it goes to the framer.

About Jack Vettriano

Jack Vettriano was born in St Andrews in 1951 and grew up in Methil, Fife. He left school at sixteen and taught himself to paint, studying the works in Kirkcaldy's gallery after being given a set of watercolours for his twenty-first birthday. When he sent two paintings to the Royal Scottish Academy's annual exhibition in 1988, both sold on the first day, and his career as a professional painter began.
