About the painting
Afternoon Reverie has a gentle, unhurried title: an afternoon spent drifting into a daydream. Reverie is a recurring mood in Vettriano's work, which often captures people in a pause between events, lost in thought or in each other. These quieter paintings show a different side of an artist best known for drama and seduction, and many collectors find them the most rewarding to live with.
It is a calm, restful image, suited to a bedroom, a sitting room or a study, and it works well alongside Vettriano's other contemplative pictures.

Before you buy
A few things worth knowing before you buy: our buying guide covers editions and pricing, our certificate of authenticity guide explains what paperwork to expect, and our investment guide looks at how Vettriano's market has held up.
Framing, display and care
This edition is printed on heavyweight museum etching paper, a soft, textured cotton stock chosen because it holds pigment ink with depth and stays stable for generations when it is looked after. If you are framing it yourself, ask your framer for an acid-free mount and backing board and for UV-filtering glazing; conservation or museum glass is worth the extra cost on a signed print. Hang it away from direct sunlight, and avoid bathrooms, kitchens and the wall above a radiator, where heat and damp can cockle the paper over time. When the print arrives, handle it by the edges with clean, dry hands and keep it flat in its packaging until it goes to the framer.
Our promise
Authenticity matters more than anything when you buy a limited edition, which is why every print we supply comes with a certificate of authenticity and is sent with fully insured UK delivery. International delivery is available on enquiry. As an official stockist we can tell you exactly what you are buying, and we are glad to talk through edition details, framing or delivery before you commit.
About Jack Vettriano
Jack Vettriano was born in St Andrews in 1951 and grew up in Methil, Fife. He left school at sixteen and taught himself to paint, studying the works in Kirkcaldy's gallery after being given a set of watercolours for his twenty-first birthday. When he sent two paintings to the Royal Scottish Academy's annual exhibition in 1988, both sold on the first day, and his career as a professional painter began.
Vettriano's paintings are known for their cinematic atmosphere: men and women in evening dress, beaches under heavy skies, quiet rooms where something has just happened or is about to. He was appointed OBE in 2003, and a major retrospective of his work was held at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum in Glasgow in 2013 and 2014.
