About the painting

Heat Wave captures the kind of sultry, airless day that slows everything down. A woman holds a cold bottle to her forehead against the heat, a simple gesture that Vettriano turns into a study of mood and atmosphere. His paintings of summer are rarely just about the weather: the heat becomes a backdrop for restlessness, boredom or temptation, and the stillness of the scene leaves plenty of room for the imagination.

It is an image with a strong, warm palette and a relaxed sensuality that suits a living room or bedroom, and it pairs well with Vettriano's beach and summer paintings.

About this edition

This is a signed limited edition of 175 prints plus 20 Artist's Proofs. Each print is signed and numbered by Jack Vettriano and comes with a certificate of authenticity. It is printed on 300gsm museum etching paper, with an image size of 39 x 31 cm and a generous mount size of 72 x 62 cm, which gives the image plenty of space and presence on the wall. A mid-sized signed print like this is versatile enough for most rooms.

Framing, display and care

This edition is printed on heavyweight museum etching paper, a soft, textured cotton stock chosen because it holds pigment ink with depth and stays stable for generations when it is looked after. If you are framing it yourself, ask your framer for an acid-free mount and backing board and for UV-filtering glazing; conservation or museum glass is worth the extra cost on a signed print. Hang it away from direct sunlight, and avoid bathrooms, kitchens and the wall above a radiator, where heat and damp can cockle the paper over time. When the print arrives, handle it by the edges with clean, dry hands and keep it flat in its packaging until it goes to the framer.
