About the painting
Evening of Ritual returns to one of Vettriano's favourite themes: the formalities and private ceremonies of the night. In his world the evening has its own codes, of dress, of behaviour and of what is left unsaid, and his figures seem to follow them with care. The title suggests a scene repeated many times before, with every participant knowing their part, but there is always the possibility that this evening will turn out differently.
It is one of the more atmospheric images in our collection, with the kind of mood that rewards a place where it can be looked at regularly, such as a living room, study or bedroom.
About this edition
This is a signed limited edition of just 100 prints plus 10 Artist's Proofs, one of the smaller edition sizes among Vettriano's signed releases. Each print is signed and numbered by Jack Vettriano and comes with a certificate of authenticity. It is printed on 300gsm museum etching paper, with an image size of 39 x 31 cm and a mount size of 62 x 52 cm. Small editions such as this one tend to be the first to become hard to find, particularly now that no new signed prints can be produced.

Framing, display and care
This edition is printed on heavyweight museum etching paper, a soft, textured cotton stock chosen because it holds pigment ink with depth and stays stable for generations when it is looked after. If you are framing it yourself, ask your framer for an acid-free mount and backing board and for UV-filtering glazing; conservation or museum glass is worth the extra cost on a signed print. Hang it away from direct sunlight, and avoid bathrooms, kitchens and the wall above a radiator, where heat and damp can cockle the paper over time. When the print arrives, handle it by the edges with clean, dry hands and keep it flat in its packaging until it goes to the framer.

About Jack Vettriano
Jack Vettriano was born in St Andrews in 1951 and grew up in Methil, Fife. He left school at sixteen and taught himself to paint, studying the works in Kirkcaldy's gallery after being given a set of watercolours for his twenty-first birthday. When he sent two paintings to the Royal Scottish Academy's annual exhibition in 1988, both sold on the first day, and his career as a professional painter began.
