About the painting
Scarlet Ribbons is one of the five images in Vettriano's Red Room Collection, his folio of sensual works. The title, borrowed from the well-known song, suggests a gift of ribbons, and in the context of the Red Room it takes on a more intimate meaning. The scarlet of the title ties it to the deep reds that dominate the series.
It is a bold, private image, best suited to a bedroom or dressing room, and for collectors drawn to the more daring side of his work.

Framing, display and care
The edition is printed on Hahnemühle mould-made paper, one of the most respected fine art papers in the world. Hahnemühle has been making paper in Germany since the sixteenth century, and its mould-made stock is acid-free and made for archival printing, with a gentle surface texture that gives Vettriano's colours a soft, painterly finish. To keep it at its best, frame it with an acid-free mount and UV-filtering glass, hang it on a dry wall away from direct sun, and avoid rooms with fluctuating heat or humidity. Handle the sheet only by its edges, and if you need to store it before framing, keep it flat and interleaved with acid-free tissue.

About Jack Vettriano
Jack Vettriano was born in St Andrews in 1951 and grew up in Methil, Fife. He left school at sixteen and taught himself to paint, studying the works in Kirkcaldy's gallery after being given a set of watercolours for his twenty-first birthday. When he sent two paintings to the Royal Scottish Academy's annual exhibition in 1988, both sold on the first day, and his career as a professional painter began.
Vettriano's paintings are known for their cinematic atmosphere: men and women in evening dress, beaches under heavy skies, quiet rooms where something has just happened or is about to. He was appointed OBE in 2003, and a major retrospective of his work was held at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum in Glasgow in 2013 and 2014.
