About the paintings

The Summer Days Triptych brings together three of Vettriano's early beach paintings: Green & Blue, Pink & Saffron and Trailing Toes, all painted in 1993. Each shows women by the sea in summer dresses, walking or resting on the sand, with parasols against the sun. Together they form one of his most relaxed and joyful groups of work, closer in mood to a sunny afternoon than to the noir tension of his interiors.

Painted in the early 1990s, as his reputation was growing quickly, these pictures show his early interest in colour, costume and the shoreline as a stage. The dresses give the series its palette, and the titles take their names from those colours. Seen together, the three images read like scenes from the same long summer's day.

About this edition

The triptych has been released as a Special Open Edition, which means it is not limited to a fixed number of prints. That makes it one of the most accessible ways to own Vettriano's work. Each of the three prints is a high-quality giclée on 300gsm museum etching paper, and each image measures 25.5 x 21 cm. As an open edition the prints are not individually signed or numbered, but the set is ideal for a first Vettriano purchase, a gift, or a summer-themed room.

Framing, display and care

Each print in this set is a high-quality giclée on 300gsm museum etching paper, made with archival pigment inks. Many owners frame the three images identically and hang them side by side in a row, which is how a triptych is meant to be seen; others split them across a hallway or staircase. Whichever you choose, use acid-free mounts and UV-filtering glass, keep the set out of direct sunlight, and avoid damp or heated walls. Matching frames and mounts make a real difference here, so it is worth asking your framer to make all three at the same time.
