About the painting
The Billy Boys has the short, punchy kind of title Vettriano often favoured, one that invites the viewer to bring their own story to the picture. His work is full of figures who carry themselves with style and swagger, and titles like this one bring a harder, more down-to-earth edge to the elegance he is known for.
It is one of the larger signed etching-paper prints in our collection, giving it real presence, and it is a strong addition to any Vettriano collection, whether as a single statement piece or alongside his other larger signed editions.

Framing, display and care
This edition is printed on heavyweight museum etching paper, a soft, textured cotton stock chosen because it holds pigment ink with depth and stays stable for generations when it is looked after. If you are framing it yourself, ask your framer for an acid-free mount and backing board and for UV-filtering glazing; conservation or museum glass is worth the extra cost on a signed print. Hang it away from direct sunlight, and avoid bathrooms, kitchens and the wall above a radiator, where heat and damp can cockle the paper over time. When the print arrives, handle it by the edges with clean, dry hands and keep it flat in its packaging until it goes to the framer.

About Jack Vettriano
Jack Vettriano was born in St Andrews in 1951 and grew up in Methil, Fife. He left school at sixteen and taught himself to paint, studying the works in Kirkcaldy's gallery after being given a set of watercolours for his twenty-first birthday. When he sent two paintings to the Royal Scottish Academy's annual exhibition in 1988, both sold on the first day, and his career as a professional painter began.
