About the painting

Queen of the Waltzers has one of Vettriano's most evocative titles. The Waltzers is the classic fairground ride, all spinning cars, loud music and coloured lights, and the title conjures the young woman who rules it, the one everyone notices. It is a title rooted in the working-class Scotland Vettriano came from, where dance halls and the fair were the places people went to see and be seen.

Vettriano often said that his paintings drew on memory and on the social world of his youth in Fife, and titles like this one carry that sense of time and place. It is a picture with warmth and a hint of nostalgia, and its compact size makes it easy to place in almost any room.

Framing, display and care

This edition is printed on heavyweight museum etching paper, a soft, textured cotton stock chosen because it holds pigment ink with depth and stays stable for generations when it is looked after. If you are framing it yourself, ask your framer for an acid-free mount and backing board and for UV-filtering glazing; conservation or museum glass is worth the extra cost on a signed print. Hang it away from direct sunlight, and avoid bathrooms, kitchens and the wall above a radiator, where heat and damp can cockle the paper over time. When the print arrives, handle it by the edges with clean, dry hands and keep it flat in its packaging until it goes to the framer.
