About the painting
Bluebird at Bonneville is one of Vettriano's most ambitious and distinctive paintings. It takes its subject from the golden age of land speed records, when Sir Malcolm Campbell drove his Blue Bird across the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah and, in 1935, became the first person to pass 300 miles per hour. Vettriano was fascinated by that era of daring, engineering and glamour, and the vast white expanse of the salt flats gives the picture a scale and openness that is unusual in his work.
Its romance of speed and record-breaking makes it a favourite with motor-racing enthusiasts as well as Vettriano collectors. Our collection also includes Pendine Beach, another of his paintings set at a famous land speed venue.

Framing, display and care
Premium editions like this are presented in a different way from a standard paper print. The image is printed at the same size as the original painting, board mounted and finished by hand with three coats of lacquer, which gives a satin surface closer to that of a canvas than a sheet of paper. It arrives in the same style of frame used for original work, with no white border and no glass over the image, so it is ready to hang as soon as it is unpacked. Because there is no glazing, choose its position with care: away from direct sunlight, kitchens, open fires and smoke. A light dusting with a soft, dry brush or cloth is all the surface needs; never use water, sprays or cleaning products on it.

About Jack Vettriano
Jack Vettriano was born in St Andrews in 1951 and grew up in Methil, Fife. He left school at sixteen and taught himself to paint, studying the works in Kirkcaldy's gallery after being given a set of watercolours for his twenty-first birthday. When he sent two paintings to the Royal Scottish Academy's annual exhibition in 1988, both sold on the first day, and his career as a professional painter began.
Vettriano's paintings are known for their cinematic atmosphere: men and women in evening dress, beaches under heavy skies, quiet rooms where something has just happened or is about to. He was appointed OBE in 2003, and a major retrospective of his work was held at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum in Glasgow in 2013 and 2014.
