The Red Room Collection: The Story Behind Jack Vettriano's Boldest Series

2 min read

Of all the folios in Jack Vettriano's print catalogue, none is as bold, or as rare, as The Red Room Collection.

The Story Behind the Collection

The Red Room Collection brings together five of Jack Vettriano's most erotic images, published as a set for the first time in 2014: Devotion, The Great Poet, Heaven or Hell: the Sweetest Choice, 'Round Midnight, and Scarlet Ribbons. Together they represent the most private and daring side of his art, built around desire, power and the theatre of seduction, subjects Vettriano returned to throughout his career but rarely gathered into a single, deliberate statement like this one.

Owning the complete folio, rather than individual prints, gives you the series as Vettriano intended it to be seen. It's a significant collector's piece, suited to a private room such as a bedroom or dressing room rather than a hallway or living room.

This Edition

The five prints are limited edition giclées on 300gsm Hahnemühle museum etching paper, each signed and numbered by Jack Vettriano. The edition is limited to 150 sets plus 30 Artist's Proofs. Each image measures 30 x 24.5cm on a paper size of 41 x 34.5cm, with a framed size of 65 x 58.5cm, and the set comes with a certificate of authenticity.

Why Collectors Seek the Full Set

Complete sets are scarcer than single prints from the series, and many owners frame all five identically and hang them as a group, the way the folio was designed to be seen, though they also work individually in different rooms if that suits a collection better.
