Heaven or Hell: The Sweetest Choice — The Story Behind Jack Vettriano's Boldest Painting
Heaven or Hell comes from the most sensual chapter of Jack Vettriano's work, and its full title tells you everything about the dilemma at its heart.
The Story Behind the Painting
The painting's full title, Heaven or Hell: the Sweetest Choice, appears in The Red Room Collection, the folio of five of Vettriano's most erotic images published as signed limited editions in 2014. The title captures the tension running through all five works: desire that promises bliss and risks consequences in the same moment. Vettriano never shied away from sensuality, and the Red Room images are among the boldest he produced. This is a picture for a private space, such as a bedroom or dressing room, and for collectors drawn to the more daring side of his art.
This Edition
This is a rare signed limited edition of Heaven or Hell, signed by Jack Vettriano and supplied with a certificate of authenticity. It's offered as an individual print, separate from the five-print Red Room folio, which is also available in our collection for anyone who wants the complete set. Since Vettriano's death in 2025, no new signed prints can be produced, so the supply of this edition is now fixed for good.
