About the painting

A woman relaxes in a bath with a glass raised, a lamp glowing beside her and three small framed pictures on the wall above. It is a private evening ritual, the kind of ordinary moment Vettriano liked to light as if for a film.

The word 'ritual' suggests something familiar and repeated, and the painting has a calm, indulgent mood that suits a bedroom or dressing room.
